Deep Freeze Recap
Posts from our 2020 Florida road trip are complete. This recap provides an outline of where we went and links to posts about each stop.
There’s No Place Like Home
When we caught up with the news, we headed home the next day. This abrupt ending was much different than originally planned, that's for sure.
The Great Escape
An airboat ride in the Everglades, a gator show by the Gator Boys, and a beautiful red lighthouse finish off our time in Florida, well almost.
Back to the Sunshine State
This post includes a beautiful lighthouse and a tram ride through the Everglades where many of our misconceptions were set straight.
The Capital City
The bus to Oranjestad is very handy. We joined a local tour on our first visit, but after that we went at it alone. We had some great days!
It’s Party Time!
Happy hours last way longer than an hour here and comfy lounge chairs call your name. Evenings are peaceful and quiet... OR NOT!
Up North
Plenty of Wisconsinites love Februarys up north with "the more snow the better", but me? I'd prefer to spend February up north... in Aruba!
Exploring Aruba
Aruba is outside the hurricane belt with excellent weather whenever you visit. If you're coming for relaxation or fun, you'll find it here.
Drink, Dine, Relax, Repeat
Nonstop flights from FLL to Aruba were very reasonable, so why not include two weeks in paradise since we're already here!
The City Beautiful
It was tough to be so close and yet so far away from the Happiest Place on Earth, but we've visited many times so I guess I'll survive.
Swan Lake
Tchaikovsky has nothing to do with today's post, but you'll see why I picked its name as we visit the beautiful Lake Eola Park in Orlando.
Between the Greens
Lu the Hippo, the gators & manatees were a great diversion from all the birdies in our backyard and at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park.
Gardens and Glass
With great visits at the Sunken Gardens and the Morean Arts Center (home to the Chihuly Collection), downtown St Petersburg is a must-stop!
Island Living
St. Pete Beach is on the barrier island of Long Key. With a fabulous condo near the Gulf Coast and its abundant birds, this stop was the best!
The Scenic Route
If you follow this blog, you know that we seldom take the fastest route when a short diversion (or six) will make the trip more interesting.
Farewell PCB
Ahead of the season, we had Camp Helen to ourselves. We were amazed that somewhere this peaceful was so close to the hustle and bustle of PCB.
Gator Lake*
After a visit to St. Andrews (the town), we explored its park. Although we had hopes of seeing some gators, LOTS of herons were even better.
Pines, Swamps and Springs
What an absolutely fabulous day here in the panhandle of FL. I will say, this state is growing on me and it hasn't even warmed up yet!
The Emerald Coast
Even though temps were downright chilly, the sunshine and white sandy beaches were a great alternative to the cold and snow of Wisconsin.
Dodging the Deep Freeze 2020
Building a snowman is pretty fun and snow looks great on the evergreens – especially with Christmas lights. But now's the time to head south.
