Seeking the Sun 2023

Posts from our 2023 southeast winter road trip are complete. This post provides an outline of what we saw and links to posts about each stop.

Despite the weather, we enjoyed the new state capitol with its observation deck, and the old state capitol with its amazing spiral staircase.

This post includes several days of exploring during our second visit to New Orleans in as many years. We dug way deeper into its history.

Today we made one stop in Darrow, LA that included a massive Great River Road Museum and a gorgeous plantation home with lovely gardens.

This was a fabulous day trip to see flowers at the "charm spot of the deep south" – Bellingrath Gardens. The home was equally as impressive!

We enjoyed a walk in the park and a visit to Historic St. Andrews for sightseeing, a tour of a vintage printer, and a beer by the Bay.

This lighthouse has been through a lot in its 175-years: rebuilds, redesigns and a relocation from the hurricane-prone Cape San Blas.

We finished off our fabulous stay in St. Marks and made a stop at San Marcos de Apalache on our way to two nights in Apalachicola.

We finish up our stay in Orlando in Mount Dora (and its light), then head to St. Marks to its National Wildlife Refuge (and its light).

With security clearance in hand, we left for Port Canaveral. It was a fabulous day, on the Port Canaveral Lighthouse and Spaceflight Tour.

North about an hour, Blue Spring State Park is a habitat for the threatened and endangered. Manatees, tall birds, and gators, oh my!

We were pretty lazy during our stay in Clermont, but our only outing was a warm and beautiful one at Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales.

Marathon finishes off our Keys stay. We'll be back soon to the gorgeous blue waters and the laid back atmosphere of this fabulous latitude.

Today we cruised the seventy miles of open water between Key West and Fort Jefferson in Dry Tortugas National Park (and had some beers).

Although I say it may be Vacations, "they" say Variety is the Spice of Life. If you’re into a little of this and that, this post is for you.

After our tour of Castillo de San Marcos, we had a great meal and strolled along St. George Street through yet another security measure.

Yesterday's trolly ride was great, but today we learned a little more about one section of St. Augustine – and a lot more about one man.

St. Augustine is a feast for the eyes with a great trolly, fabulous Spanish Colonial architecture, Nights of Lights, and a Bridge of Lions.

As much as I hated history in high school, it’s a whole nother thing to see and hear the stories of when the fate of our country was at hand.

Our stay in New Bern continues with a trip back in time – to one of our country's first colonial capitals and the home of William Tryon.

It's that time again and as winter sets in, Jim and I have the urge to migrate like the birds. We get started in New Bern, NC.
